History

Hi, I’m Rob Myers, lead instructor, coach, and founder of Agile Institute. I work with teams to encourage and strengthen Agile skills and practices, and to help organizations customize and improve their software development methods.

I started out as a professional programmer in 1986. My first taste of what would become known as “Agile” was in 1998, on an Extreme Programming (XP) R&D project for StorageTek. For six years, I worked as XP “player-coach” (i.e., developer plus Agile mentor) for a variety of long-term clients. I had the pleasure of working closely with industry luminaries such as James Shore (The Art of Agile Development), Joshua Kerievsky (Refactoring to Patterns), Richard Sheridan (Joy, Inc.), Alan Shalloway (Design Patterns Explained), & Bob Hartman.

I’ve also been teaching various Agile-related courses since 2002. My clients have ranged from tiny startups to massive Fortune 100 international conglomerates, including: Adobe, American Express, Apple, Blueport, Capital Group, CivicPlus, Cord Blood Registry, Dart Container, Fugro, Halliburton, HBO, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, iZotope, Jobvite, JustAnswer, LG, MakeMusic, Mayo, Microsoft, Nationwide Insurance, Netflix, Nike, Omnyx, Optum, Press Ganey, Prezi, Relativity (nee kCura), Riot Games, SalesForce.com, Samsung, Schilling Robotics, Symantec, Vanguard, Visa, & ZocDoc.

Agile Institute was established in 2008, and I soon found myself delivering my flagship course, Essential Test-Driven Development, to developers all over the planet. I’m grateful to my many clients (primarily Intel, Microsoft, and LG) for showing me the world: Argentina, Canada, China, Denmark, England, India, Ireland, Japan, Puerto Rico (not technically a separate country, but a wonderful place), South Korea, and numerous cities throughout the US. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to work with over 1000 talented developers, to help them establish good habits towards safer software delivery and more engaging careers.

I look forward to working with you and your teams!
